View St Augustine Shores homes from the 1970's View St Augustine Shores homes from the 1980'sConceived as a planned community in 1969 St Augustine Shores was developed on 2020 acres of wooded land bordered on two sides by water. Located on the east side of US1 4.5 miles south of downtown St Augustine the community is just minutes from the shopping on US1 where there are also extensive medical facilities. Interstate I95 is 15 minutes away providing quick access to Jacksonville to the north and Daytona to the south. It is two hours from the attractions and shopping in Orlando.
The original developers, the Mackie brothers, created the Deltona Corporation to develop and manage the St Augustine Shores community. Included in the original plan were an elementary school and worship facilities. The original models ranged from a 1 bedroom 1 bath model to 4 bedroom 2 bath homes with 660 to 1448 sq ft. Later development included homes ranging up to 2500 sq ft. Recent homes by Toll Brothers offer 2500 to 3300 sq ft. Also included in more recent years are townhomes and condos. There are community facilities including a 12,000 sq ft community building with a swimming pool, kiddie park, horseshoe pit, a card room, library and a kitchen. There is also a pier on the Intrcoastal waterway along with a boat launching ramp. For golfers there is the St Augustine Golf Club.
For almost 40 years there has been continuous home construction in St Augustine Shores. Today there are resale homes that span the period from 1970 through to 2009. The early homes range in size from the original 660 sq ft homes to homes ranging between 1,000 and 1,800 sq ft. Homes built in the 80's and 90's range between 1,700 sq ft to over 2,200 sq ft. With the turn of the century home sizes expanded over 2,200 with the largest up around 3,000 sq ft. These newer homes include models with four bedrooms three baths.
Homebuyers today will find resale real estate in St Augustine Shores priced in a range from below $100,000 to over $400,000. Developers are building new homes with prices starting around $300,000.
